John
Miles
Dr
John Miles is the managing consultant for Ankerbold, and the driving force
behind the business.
John
is an experienced senior public administrator with a professional background
in transport planning. His career in public service extended over 30 years,
including senior positions with the UK Departments of Environment and
Transport, and the European Commission.
In
1996 John formed Ankerbold as an independent transport research and management
consultancy advising on deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
in road transport, working with the European Commission, the Highways
Agency in England, Welsh Assembly Government, DfT, TfL, Transport Direct
and others.

Selected achievements:

Dr Miles is appointed Chair of the World Road
Association (PIARC) Technical Committee on Network Operations for the
period 2004-2007.
- Dr
Miles is co-editor of the PIARC ITS Handbook,which was launched at the
World Congress on ITS in Nagoya, Japan, in October 2004.
- Co-author
of DTi Intelligent Infrastructure Project Review - "The Potential
Application of Artificial Intelligence in Transport".
- Played
a central role in fostering the emergence of an International Committee
on Benefits, Evaluation and Costs of ITS, linked to the annual ITS World
Congress.
- Collaborated
on the London Traffic Systems Vision Project, for Transport for London
- Principal
advisor to the Highways Agency on policy implications of the Video Information
Highway project and distribution of CCTV traffic images.
- Leadership
of the "Vision 2030" project team on behalf of the Highways
Agency.research programmes.
- Coordinated
the development of the EC funded Thematic Research Network ATLANTIC,
(2000 - 2003).
- Groundbreaking
work on the operational specifications for the National Traffic Control
Centre for England, as part of the IBI team.
- Fellow
of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (awarded 1992).
